Since their childhood, Souma Ichinose has been at Hanabi Kisaragi’s beck and call with Hanabi even forcing Souma to become her boyfriend. Their relationship however continued to be so heavily one-sided due to Hanabi’s constant manipulation and verbal abuse, that it leads him to suffer a mental breakdown and end up in a hospital bed.

It is at this moment that Souma realizes he cannot continue this way of living with Hanabi and declares he is breaking up with her, much to her shock and disbelief.

Seeking to reinvent himself, he gets a makeover that is immediately noticed by his classmates and launches him into instant popularity. He then unexpectedly becomes acquainted with Yukishiro Fumi, the quiet girl sitting next to him who is the complete opposite of Hanabi.
